Twice the Dine

Alisa's Birthday

I just heard three words that can change every woman’s life…

“You’re gaining weight.”

Have I become a glutton?!?

Actually, I’m just a southern lady who appreciates good food, good conversation and great company. Let’s just say this past weekend I enjoyed all of the above.

Fun times indeed!

RA Sushi

When I was invited for happy hour earlier in the week, I could have sworn I would be stepping out on a Friday evening. Instead, I was invited to meet on Saturday at Ra Sushi.

Quite intrigued, I agreed to meet for drink and “dinner” rolls. On a typical Friday night, Ra Sushi is a pretty happening spot. Located on the corner of Peachtree and 10th, the restaurant is walking distance to several of Atlanta’s most popular night clubs and Loews hotel.

I’ve passed by many times, noticing the patrons dining on the patio watching people like me head to their nightly destinations. I love Sushi, but my Fridays are not usually reserved for dining, yet.

The happy hour special offers drinks and your favorite rolls at a great price but this place wasn’t my favorite. All sushi isn’t created equal and Ra Sushi is better for sightseeing.

Two Urban Licks. Tiff

Two Urban Licks

There are just some restaurants you have to try. Two Urban Licks falls into that category.

Perfect for a first date, a birthday celebration or a larger gathering, Two Urban Licks impresses.

My friend Alisa decided to celebrate her birthday this year (something she rarely does) and this restaurant proved to be the perfect spot.

The large sized venue with it’s swanky guest, lively chatter, impressive décor and great menu selection was a girl’s night out dream.

The salmon chips were a sensational starter and the steak bistro was divine.

No dining this weekend. I’m on a diet.

Restaurant Week Atlanta

Truva

Truva

Downtown Atlanta Restaurant Week was the perfect opportunity to go exploring for something new, something different and something delicious to eat.

The city comes alive with forks clicking the edges of fine china and enthusiastic chatter over white linen graced tables. I enjoy this time of the year. I’m always with new or old friends and I’m always looking forward to seeing what’s on the menu.

This time I tried Truva Mediterranean Restaurant and Lounge.

During restaurant week, chefs look over the menus and create several combinations for you. The goal is to give you several options of a full course meal for no more than $25. Smaller servings are $15 but you still get a nice dinner for less than you would on a regular business day.

Truva’s Lamb, hummus, rice/bean combination was a popular selection at our table although I ordered the lentil soup with dinner bread. The soup was delicious. Peeking over I could see friends enjoying the lamb and a few of the cocktails circling around the table.

Truva’s staff was courteous with our questions about the menu and the wide 2 level venue is perfect for small dinners or an intimate evening with a loved one.

PrivÉ Nightclub

PrivÉ

The nightlife club scene can become pretty mundane at times, but when done right – you can really find yourself having a great time.

This past Friday, my friends and I went to Prive for the first time to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Prive has been advertising its venue recently as the premier spot for your Friday indulgence. That’s a pretty strong statement considering its competitors include Vanquish and Reign, both drawing in capacity full crowds.

A private section will be your saving grace at Prive. We were welcomed to cushioned white seating, choice alcohol beverages, roped off sections, courteous wait staff and hookah for the birthday girl and her friends. We had a great time. “Lifestyle Specialist” and DJ Kenny Burns played a great set. When we weren’t sitting down posing for pictures, we were up and dancing to a musical mix of classic Hip Hop, Rap, Reggae and throw back favorites.

The crowd comes in after 11:30 but fills up pretty quick and the women are not shy to show. Prive party goers range from 25-35 and celebrity guests are there every Friday. Kelly Rowland, Kerri Hilson, and “Like a Man” actor Terrance J have gotten their party on at Spring Street. So if you’re planning on going, you want to bring your “A” game. That doesn’t mean suit and tie though. Prive substitutes that with labels, platforms and expensive watches. That’s just how it goes in the ATL.

Ultimately it was a great night out with Friends.

Amnesia, Do♪ feed different results

It’s Wednesday, better known as “hump” day. In just a few more days many of you will be making weekend plans and often those plans include finding a place to eat! Who doesn’t love to eat? Atlanta and all of it’s surrounding counties offer plenty of dining options. Here’s my take on a couple.

Amnesia worth forgetting

Amnesia Club and Lounge is located about 20 minutes outside of downtown Atlanta. On Fridays, they offer an open wing bar and $4 martinis for anyone who makes it to the restaurant between 6-9 for their after work specials. You can rush over if you want, but don’t bother. The wing bar is a selection of barbeque, spicy, lemon pepper and buffalo style wings about the size fulfilling enough for a 2 year old. They are served in heated trays but are picked over pretty quickly and take too long to get filled back up. If you eat too many, you’ll choke because water isn’t free. A bottled water costs you $4 and so does each refill on Coke beverages. The venue is nice but if you go, you may want to try ordering from the menu. http://amnesiaatl.com/

Do (dough) serves good pizza, good sounds

Thinking pizza? Then Do (dough) at the View is a good bet. This restaurant combines technology and taste for music and pizza lovers. You may have a hard time deciding from the musically titled menu options. I like the “‘Composition” a blend of pepperoni, sausage, fresh veggies and blended cheeses! I warmly greeted the  gooey sensation and then was gone in about 15 minutes. It taste just as good as it looks! Also try their desert. I recommend “Symphony” a must have for red velvet cake fans like myself. Learn more about Do at http://www.theviewatkingplow.com/do/index.html.

So whether it’s wing night or a pizza date, at least you know where and where NOT to go!
